City of Bones

So I finished City of Bones by, Cassandra Clare a couple of days ago and I loved it. The story was incredible and I've now started reading the second in the series, City of Ashes, which is just as good if not better than the first one already.


City of Bones is the story of Clary, your average teenager, who lives in New York with her artist mother. She has her best friend Simon and her mom's friend who has been a father to her all her life when her father died before she was born. She's happy with her simple life but she enjoys nights out with Simon at the all ages club Pandemonium.


But things change for Clary one night at Pandemonium when she sees three teenagers murder another teenager who they say is 'not' a human teenager at all. Suddenly Clary finds herself learning that there is more to her average world than just regular people. Vampires, werewolves, fairies and demons exist, as well as nephilim; half-humans, half-angels; who dispose of bad "monsters".


Clary is drawn to Jace, one of the nephilim fighters referred to as Shadowhunters and the world that he lives in. Jace is an arrogant, self-centered, jerk who has lapses of kindness and catches Clary's heart before she even realizes he has it.


Clary's world turns upside down when things get torn apart in her life. She's attacked by a monster and her mother goes missing. What else is a girl to do??? Do everything she can to get her mother back of course! And with the help of Jace, Alec, Isabelle and her best friend Simon.


City of Bones was a great book that had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. Clary became an incredible girl through-out the story and I fell in love with Jace as the quirky, unique guy that he is. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5. I loved the story and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I give this book a high recommendation for those who haven't read. If you enjoy a great adventure young adult novel, this is a novel you would enjoy.

Missing In Action

I know I've been MIA for a while. I'll be trying to get back into the swing of blogging and reviewing. Things have been a bit wild and crazy for a while. Happy New Year though and I hope you all have been well. I'm going to get back into reviewing books just as soon as I finish City of Bones by, Cassandra Clare. It's been a great book so far and I've realized that I was missing out on a great series. (Plus there's a part that has characters from Valiant by, Holly Black)

Infinity

When people think of Sherrilyn Kenyon, they think of the Dark-Hunter series. She's a great romance author and her books are New Yorks Times best-sellers. Infinity is a new Young Adult series about Nick Gautier, a Dark-Hunter. The story is about Nick's younger years, when he's just 14 years old.


Nick is a sarcastic smart-mouthed kid who's trying to live his life the right way and not turn out like his dad, who's locked up in prison for a lot of bad stuff. His mom is raising him as well as she can, wanting to make sure Nick is a good boy. For the most part, Nick is a good boy, but he gets mixed up with the wrong type of friends and ends up in a bad situation.


Nick isn't who he thinks he is though, there's a lot about him that even he doesn't know. The book has good parts and bad, but I really loved when Nick was being sarcastic. I love a book that makes me laugh and I found myself laughing quite a bit with Nick's quick remarks and smart mouth.


I loved Infinity and hope to pick up and read the second book Invincible, as well as beginning to work my way through the Dark-Hunter, Dream-Hunter and Were-Hunter series. Sherrilyn Kenyon is an incredible writer and she amazes me more with every book she writes, the way she gives all of her characters, for however short a time you meet them, so much life and personality.


I gave Infinity a 5 of 5, because I thought it was well worth the read, despite it being a second choice from the library, and if I hadn't picked it, it probably would've been a good couple months before I finally got to it.

Babe in Boyland

The cover says it all.

Natalie Rowan is Dr. Aphrodite, relationship columnist at her High School. The thing is, Natalie has never had a boyfriend, nor has she been in love. When the boys of her school begin lashing out and telling her that she has no experience and her advice is worthless, Natalie devises a plan to learn about the very mysterious and elusive male gender.

Going under cover at the all boys academy just outside town, Natalie turns into Nat, a new transfer student. Complete to short cropped hair, flattened chest and a roll of socks stuffed into her underwear, Nat begins a journey that will change "him" forever.

Babe in Boyland had me laughing left and right. When it wasn't a slip up in speech, it was a scene in the men's restroom or a high pitched scream so girly, she made some guys wonder if Nat was gay. Of course, we have to throw in a roommate who Nat instantly crushes on. The shy, soft spoke Emilio, steals her breath away from the very first time they meet.

I feel like I could gush about this book forever and never stop. I just adored it and I fell in love with Natalie, the courageous journalist who went to the very next level to discover the mysteries of men. I applaud her and wonder if a woman has ever done such a thing, whether it be for the sake of a passion she couldn't do as a woman (Shakespeare in Love) or maybe even for a better education or better sports program, woman have just as much strength and courage in them as a man.

This was another 5 of 5 book because it exceeded my expectations and blew me out of the water. A must read in my book. :)

Crusade

Crusade was very much my kind of novel. I love, and have always love, vampires. Crusade was all about vampires and that excited me. The book is relatively large and I admit that it took me a while to read. It was great, but the amount of detail that it had painted such a vivid picture in my mind that I felt as though I needed to make it last. I read it in short bursts and then in longer ones, finally finishing the novel the night before I had to return it to the library.

Jenn is relatively the main character, but the story jumps between the different characters. Jenn is part of a vampire slaying group based in Salamanca, Italy. They go around and vanquish evil *cue hero music here*. There job is never done though because there are millions of vampires. Vampires have taken over command of the world and either you try to live in harmony with the beasts or you're enemies for life. Jenn and the rest of the hunters are enemies of the vampires. The "Cursed Ones" came about saying they were peaceful and only drank animal blood, but soon the world found out just how evil the vampires really were.

When Jenn returns to California for her grandfather's funeral, she discovers that her home is a vampire Stronghold and that New Orleans has been taken over to the point that it's been locked down and no one is aloud in... or out.

Crusade is the first novel of a series and I'm waiting patiently for book 2 to be released. It will be fun to learn more about Jenn and the hunters and what's going on with the world taken over by vampires. I had to give this book a 5 of 5 because Nancy Holder knows how to write a book. A damned good book at that too.

The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters

I'm sure most of you have seen the movie Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. I thought the movie was adorable and it got me thinking about the books. Of course, books vary from the movies and are either good, bad or mediocre. When you take the book and the movie, you find that there's a LOT of stuff that's been altered between the movie and the book. Where the book has this, the movie has something entirely different. Does it make the movie bad, in my opinion, no. It makes it it's own movie, that differs from the book and yet, is just as good.

I've now read book 1 and 2 of the Percy Jackson series. They're middle grade books with more of a High School violence level, which is interesting. I enjoyed both books greatly and plan to read the rest of the series in due time.

Percy is no where near your average teenager. He's been kicked out of every school he's ever been in, he finds trouble where ever he goes and for some reason, there is an abundance of creepy people who want to kill him. Average teenager? Hardly. Then Percy is taken to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for demi-gods. This is where Percy learns that he's not an ordinary teenager but the son of Poseidon, one of the Big Three.

In both books, Percy goes out on Quests, although the quest in the second book isn't given to him directly. He fights monsters and scrapes by with his life barely in-tact in several occasions. Whether it's fighting crazy ugly winged old ladies or a fully grown Cyclops, the adventures never seem to end. Even as something dark and ominous looms over the heads of the Gods and Demi-Gods. As well as every other mythical being in the known and unknown world.

I give both books a 4 of 5 as they both had me either happy, sad or sitting on the edge of my seat praying to the gods that Percy lives to fight another fight. (Well duh, he's the main character and there's 5 books.... But that's besides the point!)

I haven't seen many bad reviews, so I'm guessing most readers enjoyed travelling along with Percy as he embarks on adventures that every kid wishes they could have and succeed at.

Crescendo by, Becca Fitzpatrick

I read Hush, Hush about 6 months after it came out and I loved it. Going into Crescendo, I have to say that I had forgotten most of what had happened in Hush, Hush. Despite that, I really enjoyed Crescendo. I can't wait to read the third book since the ending of Crescendo was a huge cliff hanger that left me begging for more. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews about this series and personally I really enjoyed it. I suppose I have a thing for angels. :) Or well, any supernatural being draws me in. (Except Zombies...)

Crescendo picks up where Hush, Hush left off in a way and it just continues to tell the story and relationship between the two characters... Patch and uh..... (I forgot her name...) *bounds to Goodreads for the name* Pretty awesome when you forget the main characters name, makes you want to kick yourself a couple times.

NORA! That's her name... >.< Bad me for forgetting. (Although, I have to admit, when you read a lot of books, forgetfulness does tend to happen.)

So, Nora and Patch. Patch and Nora. How about we cut Nora out of the picture and I take Patch ALL to myself... hehe

Anyways, back on topic. Patch and Nora's relationship suddenly hits pot holes. And then a cliff.... What will the dynamic duo do! Well, you'll have to read it to find out. In my category, it ranked 4 of 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed it. :)

Now, to write more reviews and get caught up with my book reading. (Oh the horror!!!)
